This has been a semester full of learning in 8th period Computer Programming. There have been some things this year that I have liked, and there were also things that I did not like. Yet the good did outweigh the bad. The only bad part of the year, I thought was that when we were working with Scratch. This might have been brought about by me spending too much time on building the background instead of completing the code. Scratch didn’t make much since to me even though it was a visually based programming language, I prefer languages that are actually written.
Some of the things that we worked with that I did enjoy were HTML/CSS and Python (working with Jeroo). I really liked working with HTML coding and often times would find myself working on my website for 3 hours at a time, yet it didn’t feel like that long to me. Learning how to use HTML well is an important skill to have especially in this day and age, because most businesses have websites and if you can use HTML you would be able to make some extra money in your place of business. HTML and CSS coding are a lot easier than I thought they would be, I thought at first that I wouldn’t be able to make anything out of just a bunch of words and characters. Python was also a fairly easy language to learn as it makes a lot of sense and directly coincides with what happens to the Jeroo. I think that it is also pretty cool when you can make the Jeroo complete tasks and run through mazes with a series of coded commands.
Overall this year has taught me a lot in the world of computers and programming. Before this class I knew barely anything about computers, so truly this class has taught me a good amount of information about technology, which I will definitely use in the near future.
